Getting ready for a trip
Practice ordering dinner in Rome, asking directions in Madrid, or making small talk in Lyon before you land.
Lessons teach you the words. Conversation is where you actually use them, and that’s the part most people never get enough of. Sammie is a patient, friendly conversation partner in French, Spanish, German and Italian — and English, too. No classes, no scores, no judgment. Just talk.
“Ich habe gestern mit meiner Oma telefoniert, aber ich habe viele Wörter vergessen.”
“Das passiert vielen! Schön, dass ihr telefoniert habt. Worüber habt ihr gesprochen?”

Maybe your grandmother spoke German, or you grew up hearing Spanish at home. Sammie is a comfortable place to find those words again.
You studied French years ago and don’t want to lose it. A few conversations a week can help keep it alive.
Chat about books, cooking, history or your day. It’s easier to stay engaged when the conversation is about something that matters to you.
Ask Sammie to practice a language, or choose it from the language-practice controls in your conversation. Type or speak — your account language stays the same.
There’s no script or lesson plan. The conversation goes wherever you take it.
When you slip, Sammie may point out a better way to say it, briefly and kindly, then keeps the conversation going.
Can’t find the word? Ask for a word or a short explanation in English, then keep going in the language you’re practicing. Typing can help if the microphone has trouble with a language switch.
Done practicing? Choose “Back to normal conversation” or ask Sammie to stop language practice. It’s an opt-in mode for that conversation, not a change to your whole account.
“Ieri sono andato al mercato e ho comprato molto pomodori.”
Sammie“Che bello! Piccola nota: si dice molti pomodori. Cosa hai cucinato con tutti quei pomodori?”
“Ich habe gestern mit meiner Oma telefoniert, aber ich habe viele Wörter vergessen.”
Sammie“Das passiert vielen! Schön, dass ihr telefoniert habt. Worüber habt ihr gesprochen?”
“¿Podemos ir poco a poco? Estoy practicando para mi viaje a México.”
Sammie“¡Claro! Vamos paso a paso. ¿A qué parte de México vas?”
Sammie isn’t a course or a language app. There are no lessons, quizzes, points or streaks to protect. If you’re starting from zero, a structured course may be a better place to begin. Sammie works best once you know some basics and want to actually use them.
